About The Eye

The Eye is the New England Center for Investigative Reporting’s home for all of its multi-platform investigative journalism.

Launched in 2009 by veteran Boston journalists Joe Bergantino and Maggie Mulvihill, NECIR’s mission is to hold the powerful accountable through high-impact investigative reporting, and to train a new generation of investigative reporters. NECIR was at the forefront of a national movement that led to the creation of dozens of nonprofit investigative reporting centers across the U.S., filling a void for quality investigative reporting in New England and beyond.

We launched The Eye in 2016 to reflect the evolution of our center. We’ve expanded our reporting team, forged vital partnerships with Boston University, WGBH News (NPR/PBS), and others, and we’re publishing high-impact, award-winning investigations with national and international media partners across web, print, television, and radio. The Eye is the home for this evolving body of work, reflecting the news organization we’ve become and providing us a direct line to our audience as we work to keep a close watch on the government, big business and large institutions that impact our lives.
